Paper Wine Bottle Being Pushed To Replace Dumb Glass

Okay, glass isn’t dumb as the title suggests. But it had to put the whole paper vs. glass argument in perspective. Seen below is what a wine bottle made of paper looks like. It’s slated to go into production soon thanks to a Yorkshire-based manufacturer who cut a deal with the inventor. Oh yeah, the inventor. Martin Myerscough’s the name and he has got quite the entertaining back story.

Greenbottle

To keep it short, Martin Myerscough thought that plastic bottles in landfills are a huge waste. Drawing on his lifelong passion for innovating at stuff plus the resources of his own company Greenbottle, he uses a combination of papier-mâché cleverness and foil to produce a biodegradable lightweight wine bottle.

The problem with Myerscough’s invention is marketing. Wines are a strictly conservative business, though anyone fond of the red stuff knows that wine has undergone a lot of transformation in the last 60-70 years. So the big hurdles facing the Myerscough bottle are branding and disposal. Glass, which is de rigeur with wines, is recyclable to a maddening degree. The Myerscough bottle, though it biodegrades, has a metal foil interior to preserve the liquid content. For some reason this is problematic when it comes to recycling. It’s a bad mix, claims one eco-conscious group.

But other than minor quibbles about disposal, it seems Myerscough’s bottle is going to give the industry a good shake.

VMware Apologise For Allowing Apple Leopard And Snow Leopard OS To Be Installed

Further to yesterdays discovery that VMware had rolled out a new update to its Fusion software, which allowed older copies of Apple’s Leopard and Snow Leopard operating systems to be installed on virtual machines. VMware has today issued a statement via its website blog apologising. Saying that the feature was not intended and was a mistake on their part.

VMware Fusion

VMware explains on their blog:

“VMware Fusion 4.1 was released late last week and includes many great improvements. One change was the introduction of a new license verification step for users to verify they are in compliance with the OS licensing terms.

When the license verification step was added in VMware Fusion 4.1 the server edition check was omitted. We are preparing an update.

Running Mac OS X client in a virtual machine continues to require Lion (purchased from the Mac App Store or a USB thumb drive.) Users should always ensure they remain in compliance with any applicable software license agreements.”

Star Wars Hot Beverages, Drink Them You Will

One of the most revered film franchises in all of geekdom is Star Wars. Anytime something new that is Star Wars branded comes out it catches my eyes. When the stuff is from ThinkGeek, I really get excited. ThinkGeek always has the coolest Star Wars gear. The latest beverage set would look great with that vintage Star Wars lunch box I have from when I was a kid on the shelf in the kitchen.

Star Wars Drinks

Three different tins are in this set. Each are metal and the labels are lithographed to last for years. The set includes Vader’s Dark Roast, Hoth Cocoa, and Yoda Dagobah Green Tea. I can’t really figure out how large the cans are. Those cans are what you are really buying, the drinks are just ancillary.

The three can set sells for $29.99 and is available now. The green tea has an ounce of leaves and can make 14 cups of tea. The coffee has three ounces of roast and the cocoa is enough for 4-5 cups. You can order the set right now.

Cute Slice Of Pizza Sleeping Bag Costs A Bundle

But wait, before the bad news arrives let it be writ that this sure is hilarious. Sleeping in a pizza slice, imagine that! It definitely comes highly recommended to pizza eaters who order ‘zza on a weekly basis at the very least. There is, however, an origin tale behind this odd sleeping bag that appeared at Etsy some time ago. Turns out this person named Brook created an Etsy profile to receive orders. See, Brook’s Pizza Sleeping Bags are handmade from quilts and take up to six weeks before they’re finished. That’s not all though.

Pizza Sleeping Bag

Other than the novelty of sleeping in a giant pizza slice, the sleeping bag comes with pillows shaped like toppings. In the picture you have olives and mushrooms spread across the ‘zza’s 3 feet x 5 feet size. Customers can actually choose which ‘toppings’ they prefer and Brook assures compliance depending on the customer’s location. You really wish it was real pizza except giant real pizza will probably attract rats.

The money side of this sleeping bag proposition is Brook requires a hundred dollar down payment out of a total of $300. Despite the expense, keep in mind this is handmade and labor intensive. Besides, a Pizza Sleeping Bag just rocks so incredibly hard.

GameGadget Unveils Go Anywhere – Play Everything Games Console

This week UK company GameGadget has announced the launch of their new “Go Anywhere – Play Everything” games console, called the GameGadget 1.0. which is looking to take on the big players in the market.

The new GameGadget 1.0. has been developed together with a new software service called GameGadgetGames. Which has been created to offers gamers, developers and game publishers, unrivalled choice and flexibility in how they play, create and sell games, says its creators.

GameGadget

Jason Cooper, the creator of the GameGadget said in the press release:

“GameGadget has been designed with the ultimate goal of playing every game on a single device, just as the “iPod” was for music. Hundreds of thousands of games are currently “archived” and no longer being enjoyed by Gamers, with no value being generated for the Developers and Publishers. The launch of GameGadget creates a market for gamers to play the games they want to play. The GameGadgetGames service, just like “Apple’s App Store”, allows the owners of these games, to re-market their back catalogue, in their original format, set the appropriate pricing and gain incremental revenue, BUT with no additional investment”.

The GameGadget 1.0 will be available exclusively from the GameGadget website for £99.99 and is scheduled to launch in January 2012.

NFC Enabled iPhone Coming In 2012?

Before the iPhone 4S was announced there were rumors that the handset would come with NFC (Near Field Communication) capabilities, and now it looks like the rumors have started again, and according to a recent report Apple may launch an NFC enabled iPhone in 2012.

iPhone 4S

As Android, Symbian, BlackBerry and Bada have supported NFC (near field communication) functions and Microsoft and Apple plan to make Windows Phone and iOS support NFC in 2012, the proportion of NFC-enabled smartphones will quickly increase from less than 10% currently to over 50% in two to three years, according to Taiwan-based smartphone makers.

Of course it is still just a rumor at the moment, but with Google launching NFC enabled devices like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, we would suspect that Apple are looking into the technology at the moment.
