Samsung Unveils Galaxy Tab 3

3:07 AM

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 was unveiled Monday morning and the tablet appears to feature mild upgrades to the company’s Tab lineup. The devices specs point to a budget friendly device aimed at the smaller-sized tablet sector.

The Galaxy Tab 3 features an upgraded dual-core 1.2GHz processor (up from 1GHz on the Galaxy Tab 2) and it comes equipped with a 16GB internal storage drive. As with other Samsung devices the Tab 3 also features an extra microSD expansion slot. The card expansion slot allows for an additional 64GB of added memory.

The Tab 3 runs on the Google Android 4.1 backend and comes equipped with a three-megapixel camera alongside a front-facing 1.3-megapixel option.

With its entry-level specs the Galaxy Tab 3 also features a seven-inch TFT display that outputs via 1024×600 pixels of resolution.

In terms of connectivity the Tab 3 features standard Wi-Fi connectivity, Wi-Fi Channel Bonding on 2.4GHz and 5GHz, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 3.0, and USB 2.0.

Users should receive plenty of use time out of the device with its 4,000mAh battery. The device is also easy to hold with a size of just 111.1 x 188 x 9.9mm.

Samsung will begin selling the Galaxy Tab 3 internationally in May. The company will release the Wi-Fi version next month followed by a 3G setup in June.

Samsung has not yet released pricing for the new entry-level tablet.

With HP launching its own 7-inch Google Android tablet for just $170 we expect that the Galaxy Tab 3 will be offered at a respectable price point?

As you can tell from the pics above the Galaxy Tab 3 follows the standard Galaxy Tab design with a rounded bezel, plastic casing and both physical and touch-based buttons on the frontside.

With Apple’s marketshare of the tablet market taking slow but steady hits the budget friendly Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 could be a big win for Samsung.

Are you in the market for a low-end Android-based tablet.
