If you have purchased a battery case branded with Mophie Juice Pack Air for your iPod touch 4G or a Best Buy Rocketfish battery case for your iPhone 3G or 3GS you need to listen up. Best Buy and Mophie have both issued separate recalls on these products. Mophie is recalling 6,118 iPod touch cases.
The reason for the recall is 110 reports of the cases getting hot to the touch, deforming from heat, or causing burns. Mophie is replacing these cases at no cost to the consumer under the recall. Best Buy has a bigger issue on its hands with a recall of 32,000 iPhone 3G and 3Gs battery cases.
These cases are known to overheat when charging and pose a risk of fire. There have been 14 malfunctioning cases reported so far and of that number, three causes burns and four more caused slight property damage. Best Buy is offering US buyers a $70 gift card to return the case and Canadian buyers a $150CAD.
