Acer AO756-2623 Aspire One

The new Acer Aspire One AO756-2623 small laptop model is an inexpensive 11.6-inch cross-over between a netbook and a full-power ultraportable.

The AO756-2623 packs the Intel Celeron 877 ultra-low voltage processor, with performance ranking between the Intel Atom processors and ultraportable- and ultrabook-use Core-series ULV chips. For example, in PassMark CPU benchmark, the dual-core “Sandy Bridge” Celeron 877 scores 1,470 points on average, while for the top-of-the-line netbook-use Atom N2800 scores 723 points. On the other side, the entry Intel Core i3-2357M “Sandy Brdige” model for ultrabooks and ultraportables achieves a score of 1,671. The result closer to the i3 than Atom is expected, since the former two have similar specs and a thermal design power of 17W, while the N2800 consumes only 6.5W, generally resulting in better battery life.

Unfortunately, battery life estimation for the Acer AO756-2623 or product reviews aren’t available. The Li-Ion battery used is a four-cell unit with a 2,600mAh capacity, so the run time is very likely lower than on the six-cell powered netbooks and ultrabooks.

The screen resolution is 1,366 x 768 pixels, so you will have the same working area like on the full-size notebooks with the same resolution, but on a smaller panel.

The processor and its integrated Intel HD graphics are accompanied by 2GB of DDR3 memory and a 320GB hard drive.

Design-wise, the AO756-2623 sports the latest chassis shape with a chiclet keyboard, a one-piece trackpad, thin profile measuring 1.1?, and a weight of 3 pounds, making the laptop fairly easy to tote around. The area around the keyboard is matte, while the lid is a glossy one. This particular model comes in Ash Black color.

Besides portability, the best selling point for the laptop is its price of only $250. It puts the AO756-2623 in the netbook price range and its way cheaper than the standard ultraportables, not to mention the ultrabooks. At the time of this writing, this laptop is probably the best choice for budget-minded small laptop shoppers and the best netbook alternative.
