The Dell Inspiron I15RSE-6167BK is one of the Special Edition models from the recently released laptop maker’s 15R 2012 series for consumers.

Unlike the standard plastic-clad Inspiron 15R, the Special Edition sports anodized aluminum palm rests and lid with precision-etched honeycomb design. In addition, the SE has a full HD 1080p display instead of a 728p one, a dedicated video card, and keyboard backlight.

Since this a newly launched laptop, it’s not surprise that it comes with the latest computing technology. The Dell I15RSE-6167BK is built around the quad-core 3rd Generation i7-3612QM processor and the AMD Radeon HD 7730M 2GB video card, so it’s a higher-end configuration. The included i7 CPU is an entry quad-core model, since Intel has in its product line faster chips from the same family, such as the 3720QM and 3820QM. But, even the lower-end i7 part delivers respectable computing potential with a Passmark score of 7,927 points. It beats its i5 counter part, the i5-3210M with 3,654 points, by a large margin, with the almost twice better result.

The Radeon HD 7730 is a basic part from the 7700 series, based on the latest GPU technology by AMD called Graphics Core Next. For more info about the graphics card you can check out this page on NotebookCheck, which shows that the 7730 is in 3DMark 11 benchmark about 13 percent faster than the older Radeon HD 6770M and 10 percent slower than Nvidia’s GeForce GT 640M.

Other than CPU and GPU, the entertainment-oriented Dell Inspiron I15RSE-6167BK packs 8GB of DDR3 memory, which is more than sufficient for virtually any computing task and multitasking, as well as a spacious 750GB hard drive. The HDD is not only big, but it also spins fast at 7,200rpm. The included optical drive is a DVD burner.

The 6167BK configuration costs $950.
