Amtran reports increased revenues in 2Q12Julian Ho, Taipei; Alex Wolfgram, DIGITIMES [Friday 6 July 2012]Amtran Technology, a Taiwan-based ODM of LCD monitors and TVs, has reported NT$15.2 billion (US$502 million) in second-quarter consolidated revenues, a 46% on-year increase, due to returning remand in North America.

In June alone, the company reported NT$5.6 billion, a 64% year on year growth and an 11% growth over May. Amtran said there have been increasing LED TV sales over the last few months and that it is optimistic about the third quarter with its new 39-inch direct-type LED TV to be launched in order to compete with Samsung Electronics.

Amtran's 39-inch model will give the company an edge in the market as it will pose challenges with 37- and 40-inch models, according to industry sources. The company is also in discussions about a possible 50-inch model that could tackle 46/47-inch and 55-inch TV models, added sources.

The company is also optimistic about its investment in Vizio and its injection of new LCD TV models that are expected to do well in North America. More so, Vizio hopes to take advantage of promotions during the Summer Olympics along with government subsidies for energy-efficient products that include TVs that have recently been distributed by the governments in both Taiwan and China.

Amtran plans to focus more on value-added TVs that have LED backlighting, 3D displays and Internet connectivity functions and expects the LED penetration rate to rise during 2012, according to industry sources.
