The 15.6-inch Toshiba Satellite L855 is an inexpensive laptop line, but it’s still positioned a level higher in the hierarchy than the C855 with the same screen size.
Toshiba advertises the Satellite L855 as an ideal well-sized laptop for everyday computing, aimed at students, light gamers, PC shoppers with a family, as well as small or home-based businesses. The L855 comes with the 3rd Generation Intel “Ivy Bridge” processors, but there’s also legacy 2nd Gen technology offered on the lowest-end configuration. The maximal amount of RAM is up to 8GB for the 2nd Gen-powered models and up to 16GB for those with the 3rd Gen chips. Please note that this overview is for the L855 only which currently ships with the integrated Intel graphics only, while AMD CPU-based variant with dedicated AMD video card options has been also launched and it’s called L855D. The storage space goes up to 1 Terabyte and this multimedia focused notebook provides Blu-ray Combo and Blu-ray writer choices besides the default DVD burner option.
Among the most noticeable on-body changes when compared to the previous L755 is the new textured trackpad, set apart from the rest of the case with a large bezel. Basically, the L855 has the same shape as the recently overviewed Satellite S855, but the former has a case made of plastics with textured finish, while the latter sports brushed aluminum. These two are basically the same laptop, but the S855 is a kind of a higher-end variant, offered only with the quad-core Intel processors and with optional AMD dedicated graphics. Back to the design, the default chassis color choice for the L855 is Mercury Silver, but there are also Corsa Red, Cobalt Blue, and Tuxedo Black and the keyboard is a chiclet-style one. Toshiba says the chassis is fingerprint-resistant and slim, with a profile measuring 1.31 inches.
The speaker bar is located below the screen and the stereo speaker sound is enhanced with SRS Premium HD technology.
When it comes to ports and slots, the Toshiba Satellite L855 is a pretty much standard 2012 mainstream notebook offering USB 3.0 technology and HDMI.
The Toshiba Satellite L855 starts at $480. It can be configured according to a customer’s choice at ToshibaDirect.com or purchased as a preconfigured model at the same official store or via various retailers.
